Kwiakah Nation
A conservation-focused Indigenous Nation
The Kwiakah Nation is a small but resilient community on the west coast of what we now call British Columbia. They are piloting an Indigenous-led conservation economy on their territory—a model focused on regenerative forestry and sustainable business that could provide a new solution to climate change.
Services: creative direction, brand strategy, visual brand, website copywriting (x2), website development (x2)
“I was on Salt Spring Island with my wife when we saw the Nation's new brand for the first time—and all I could say was "Wow, she nailed it."
Kristina did an amazing job creating a brand that illustrates the Nation's vision, resilience, and positivity. She also did a great job distilling our complex ecosystem of information into simple campaign messages that speak to our audiences. She was thoughtful, passionate, and wonderful to work with.”
Frank Voelker, Band Manager

To build public excitement and philanthropy for their work, they needed to capture their story and the idea of a conservation economy in an easy-to-understand, accurate, and emotive brand that could inspire, move, and influence.
As such, their brand’s voice focuses on communicating the Nation’s heart through their latest initiative—their vision, warmth, spirit, and story. The colours—inspired by Kwiakah lands, rivers, and seas—strike a balance between rooted, resilient greens and blues and their brighter, optimistic counterparts. The all-caps type in the logo is wide and spacious with small flourishes and curves, mirroring the Nation’s resilience and their presence on their lands for millennia.
After working with them on their conservation economy campaign in 2022, I was thrilled that they approached me to redesign their Nation’s main site, kwiakah.com. What an honour—I am so proud of how their website turned out.
